Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
